dehorning party a bust

Well the dehorning party went well, but for a party it was a bust. The only one that showed up was Paul Muller, from Mullers Lane Farm. Such a dear friend Paul is, we got all the calves dehorned and all the bulls are now steers. All went well, very little bleeding and the calves are doing great. NOW, the secret blood stop we use is horse tail, it grows on our farm and we harvest it for our own use. Dry the plant and then powder it and make a puffer bottle and put it on where the horns where and helps stop any blood flow there may be. Paul loved the lunch Catherine made, Jersey roast beef, home grown potato`s, homemade corn muffins, and brownies for dessert. A good time was had by all, all but the calves. I think next weekend we are going to have a hoghouse cleaning party, should be a heck of a good time. > Thanks Marc

LOL!
Those Muller's are good friends alright.

Glad you all got those calves whipped into shape though.
Catherine's lunch sounds like the best part of the day.

You need to find a better marketing plan for your upcoming event.
Just saying.

if you only got one to show up to work calves, I'll bet it will be standing room only to shovel pig doo.

Well Bruce, most of the doo is sheep, this is the only building I can`t get my skidloader in. We had sheep in the building and you know how sheep poo gets, hard and packed. Well we put pigs in it this spring to root it up, and now the pigs are gone the poo needs to come out. I`m willing ti bet this party will not go well either, so I think I may try to get a couple school kids during Thanksgiving break to help, then I need to get a new roof on the ole girl. > Thanks Marc

Don't feel bad, nobody ever want's to come to my parties either. I never knew how few people liked to do things like castrate, load pigs, and butcher chickens and turkeys. I don't even attempt a poo moving party.

We always dehorn at our Branding/castrating party. And we literally have people calling US to find out when we're going to do it next.

Of course if we did it the boring way and ran them through the chute or something, we'd probably have a little more trouble finding help.
But an old-fashioned rope-and-drag branding never has trouble rounding up a crew.

Well if we did a rope and drag party, we would have a hard time finding enough people to be able to ride and throw a loop, once again it would be Paul Muller that would come to the rescue, Paul use to be a cowboy, or should I say he still is. > Thanks Marc

Nail pulling party

...with conscripted labor. That was long years ago when we were building our barn with used lumber from an old Army barracks.
I'll throw a party anytime someone wants to come help me clean cow and goat pens. I do have a a pretty good crew show up for butchering though.

You'd probably be surprised how many people in your area go roping on a regular basis.
But then the real question would be: Are they cowboys, or just ropers.
