Beef Calf (pics)
Old Topside rarely messes with the beef breeds. In fact this is only the third one I've ever owned....What type cross? He's 250# but you'd think I had captured "Big Foot". Chained all pen gates, 5 days later he's finally sniffing my hand....Bonding at it's finest...Topside

Topside, you may not be fishing for guesses but that critter looks to have Maine-Anjou influence.

With the exception of the long topline, I'd say the white hair on the underline and the hair growth pattern would be an influence of Maine. The long body type and sharp tailhead could show some limi, but I'd still lean more towards the Maine.
Then again, I've bottle raised some MS steer that could fit in the same pen with this steer at that weight. Just a thought.

Not many exotics around here so I have no background it that area. I would venture shorthorn and red angus plus and unknown to me.
All "bigfoots" I ever had, had some brahma blood which I do not see in this animal.

Maine Anjou or Shorthorn. Could also be Simmi, but those markings work with the first two a lot more.

You done right penning a calf that size up good and tight. If they came off a cow they still have a strong flight instinct at that size.

Allen, there was one time that I helped do a BBSE on a red Maine bull, and he certainly wasn't the docile type. Seems to me that a lot of animals that come from french breeds like Maine Anjou, Charolais, Saler and Limousin, are a bit high-strung and crazy. Of course breeders have been working to breed out these "crazy genes."
After looking at the pics on the Oklahoma breed site, he looks to be almost pure Maine, and not a crossbred. But I could be wrong.

I dunno, I've seen a LOT of crazy Angus cattle..... I'd put Charolais quieter than Angus, at least the ones I've dealt with.
