my calfs are mostly bull calfs, about 65%. I don't mind because the steers sell better then hefier's.

myers,

As I'm sure you know, it's all a function of your bull. Your cows are always producing X chromosome ova. Your bull is producing both X and Y chromosome sperm. It appears that your bull's X sperm is either more plentiful or is stronger than the Y sperm.

Have you changed bulls since your last calving season?

With the pure dairy cattle this year, I'm at 4 bulls and 2 heifers. Doesn't bother me at all as I used an angus bull last year on the jerseys, MS, and ayrshires so I could market some beef. The calves so far are growing out tremendously. I'm debating using him again for a second year. Got about all the milkers I need for this hobby farm!

Myers, are you still selling all the heifers you can raise/buy? I've noticed the prices down at Sulphur Springs have plummeted on heifers.

We had a bumper crop of bulls this year, ain`t it funny, dairy farms want heifers, and beef farms want bulls, and neither of us get what we want. I`m using a differant bull this year, so hoping for heifers next year if we stay with it. > Marc
