Mob grazing and water

I haven't really done mob grazing since I don't have a water system set up, my cows drink out of the spring. The one paddock that I can do it effectively in really looks good though.
My question is, if I fenced them into a small area to bump up the stocking rate, how long could I keep them in there without water? Could I lock them up in the morning and let them out at night? It's not real hot here in the day this time of year, 70's at best. Would it be a different answer if they were fenced in over night?

Cattle do best with water free choice.

Can you put a water trough on a wagon and leave it there during the day?

Are they dry cows? Generally cows water twice a day. Morning and evening. If water is convenient, they may drink more often, but they need those two waterings. Ours will usually go to water at noon, too, especially in the heat, but then it's convenient in all of our grazing paddocks. If your temps aren't bad, I'd think after they water in the morning, they could be shut up until evening without any damage. I'll bet they don't even complain if they're on good grass. Now if they're nursing calves, they do need more water and you might want to talk to someone local who's more familar with local conditions.

Thanks. They're all classes. yearlings, bull, dry cows, and those with calves. And, it won't be good grass, the reason I want to do it is to stomp down some weeds. I guess I'll just try it on the weekends and give them half days.
