rotational grazing with milk cow and beef cows

Anyone using rotational grazing with their milk cow along with their beef cows? How to you seperate out the milk cow when it is time to milk? Any other feed back on this topic would be appreciated.

Most of the time it's very easy to separate a milk cow from the herd as she's used to getting some grain for a treat to coax her into the stanchion. After she's in the routine of you narrowly opening a gate to allow only her to come into the barn every day, it's not a problem. As far as rotational grazing, I rotate from pasture to pasture but not on a strict regimen. I just watch the growth rate or growth decline of a particular pasture and move them accordingly to let the current one rest and rebuild.

Yep, pretty much what Francis said. They will come to the barn/milk area once they get a routine going. Once and awhile mine will throw a monkey wrench in the routine and won`t be standing at the barn door some mornings. Then I have to walk out and get them, and you can just hear then snikering all the way back to the barn. And I do the same thing with pasture as Francis does. <Thanks Marc
