Great deal

A friend of mine knows the family selling this pair:

http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/grd/194140130.html

I have inquired about them and hope to hear back if they aren't sold already.

I feel I can sell the heifer calf for just a bit under that in my area.

What do you all think?

Yes, for the pair and I believe in milk. I haven't found out about whether she is bred back yet.

Around here I can sell the heifer for around $800 or the cow for $1000 all day long and keep the heifer.

I need to find out more, for certain, because I'd have to drive all that way to PA.

I'd be afraid to post that here - someone would buy her before me. Great deal if she's mastitis free.

If the cow is healthy and you can sell the heifer for just under the amount paid, then consider the cow almost free.

LOL! The friend of mine has let her know to get with me on the pair before considering anyone else - haa haa! If it doesn't work out for me, I hope someone else is able to give the pair a good family home.

It isn't due to cancer that they are selling the cow/calf pair. Or rather I should say, the reason the woman gave on a goat group I am on is not due to cancer, but do to another issue.
I know the individual selling.
They just bought the bred cow earlier this year. Actually, were/are members here as well as the KFC board.
They were given input from members of this board.

Oh. I was sure my friend listed Cancer and a move from the farm as reasons for selling, but I might be mistaken. . . I might be confusing what she told me and what I've seen in other listings on craigslist for reasons they are selling.

DostthouhaveMilk - I tried to send a PM, but your inbox is full.

I looked back at the woman's facebook post who told me about it and realized it was a tough pregnancy that is listed as why she needs to sale.

I probably need to consider the purchase more anyway since we are very tight on cash, and if I can't sell the calf or cow quickly for a bit less than the price for both, I'd have an issue - lol

I checked out the seller's blog and remember the cow now from back in Feb. and posting on Keeping a Family cow.

Creamers found the reason. If she was not sharing it openly, I didn't see it my place necessarily.
I don't know the seller well. They contacted us looking for a cow but found this girl before I could get back to them.
Seemed to work out well and the cow calved a healthy heifer calf for them.
It has been a hard decision for them. They are also selling the MiniNubian goat herd as well.

Creamers,
I figured it was maybe you who tried to PM me. I tend to get a notice from HT that my Inbox is full when someone tries to PM me. lol
I haven't bothered to empty it recently. Just haven't had the patience to sit down and copy and save the correspondences yet.

I'm just gonna stick with looking for a Dexter heifer to have a dual purpose breed here with our Jersey.
