Welcome to the forum Hen....I've seen this condition several times. Each time it's a brair, splinter, hay stem or whatever gets stuck into the gum line on the lower half of the jaw. A calf that age has a very soft gum so items can easily get stuck in and infected. I've lanced the knot into a white t-shirt before and each time a foreign object would be squeezed out. Wound clean out with iodine and all was well. Just a little info for you to work with....really no need to lance, just my personal choice...Topside
Let me just add that if your calf's lump is about walnut size then my above advice should solve your problem...if the lump is the size of a grapefruit well call a Vet because that's out of my league.
