Calf question

My newly unexpected calf is about 5 days old now, and likes to hide in the tall weeds and grass, and only comes to visit mom when hungry. How long will he do this before he starts hanging out with the herd?

They will join the herd very soon. I rarely see the calf/cow or calf only away from the herd more than 10 days

Yes about 10 days. If it stays away longer it may be having a problem like navel ill.
