Beef records for herd

Do you keep records? If so, do you just keep a book with important details or do you use software? Anyone using spreadsheets with your own layout? What sort of details do you need to track.

I keep a simple ledger or expenses and incomes on a book I picked up from an office supply store. It's not fancy but it works. The thing that has helped me considerably is to write EVERYTHING down. Even if the expense or income is questionable, your wife/bookeeper/accountant will be able to sort out whether the expense is useable at tax time.

I keep extensive records. On paper, with a program and with some of my own spreadsheets, when I find a gap in my program.
