cow with lumps on jaw

One of the Angus cows has several large lumps on her jaw. 2 days ago they looked like 2 golf balls had been slipped under the skin, but today ther is an oblong one there also. originally the owner theought they may have been bee stings if she got into a ground nest or something, but this looks worse. She's acting normally other than that. Any ideas?? Thanks!

I just googled it, and it looks like lumpy Jaw but of course I don't know if it's superficial tissue abcesses or bony lump jaw. So now my quesiton is has anyone dealt with this successfully?

look in the back of her mouth and make sure she doesn't have any hay trapped way back and down deep in the jaw socket. A lot of times this can cause an abcess.

I am with Marc on this one too. Lumpy jaw is usally formed on the bottom side of the jaw. I have my old jersey steer that has had a few abbcessed teeth over the yrs. He still has lumps on his jaw line both upper and lower from it. Also lumpy jaw is usally one big lump.

What kind of hay or grass has this cow been eating? Most likely it is an abcess from a sticker or particle of some kind that has moved through from the mouth into the tissue and abcessed. Feel of it and see if it is hard or soft feeling. If soft it can be drained but if it is hard then it has past the stage of draining. Genrerally just lancing it to open it up will sufffice to let the pus drain out. You can use a syringe with some sterile water and betadine to irrigate it after you drain it. It will then heal up on its own,
