I would just google "bulls and lease price" to get an idea of what to charge.

I lease my Angus bull out to my neighbours - and because they are my neighbours and good ones at that, I don't get too carried away. One has 6 cows and I charged $100.00 plus GST (Sales Tax) for 6 weeks. Another has 2 cows and I charged him $50.00 cash. I take into account that he is off the place and being grazed elsewhere. When I was the one doing the leasing I was paying $200.00 cash for 10 cows plus the trucking to and from my farm.

Tips? Off the top of my head (at this time of night) ensure that the herd he is going to is disease free. You do not want him coming home and infecting your herd with diseases that he has picked up while on holiday.

Get them to either insure your bull while they have it, or sign a paper that you can draw up, stating that if the bull dies or is killed while in their care from causes other than natural (ie heart attack) which would have to be confirmed by a vet, that they recompense you to the value of what he would have fetched at the freezing works or sale barn.

If the farms are outside of reasonable walking distance, they pay for the trucking from and back to your farm.

Hope that helps a little given that I'm quoting NZ prices.

Cheers,
Ronnie

I use to rent bulls out years ago, (beef) I would haul the bull to their place, for x number of months, for x amount, with signed contract. I would do this with bulls I no longer needed for myself, and if I planned it right they never came back home. They would go from one farm to another, and then to the sale barn. I made good money doing this as people don`t want to own a bull all the time, I had one guy rent four bulls at one time and then they would be split up and go to different farms after that. If I had a guy that wanted to breed late, if he would keep the bull over winter I didn`t charge him for breeding. Bulls gain most of the time, so you rarely loose weight. Depending on the amount of cows and time is how I charged for the bulls, If I remember 300 to 400 per bull is what I charged. >Thanks Marc
