Our farm produced its first freezer meat!

Well sort off. Our original bull. AngusXHerford. I picked him up as a breeder when he was just over a year old. Well 2 years later and no calves he went to th butcher yesterday. He was 490 hanging weight and I have alot of him already sold, but I will be keeping some. I'm excited and thought I would share.

sounds light to me 2 years old and only 490 hanging weight? my jersey mix was 501 hanging at 20 months and he was a steer

im thinking that yours should of been a lot bigger cause i have had angus and all mine were around 800hanging weight at 18-22 months of age all steers

but if the meat is good its all that matters we dont butcher bulls cause the one we did do was 3 years old and the meat tasted funny kinda sour

and if you sell half of it or more than half that meat isnt gonna last you very long or at least not me 800lbs will get me though till the other cow go in 18-22 months later some years we have some left over other years we dont

He was very small. I got him as a calf to use to breed my cows. That didn't work out so there was nothing else to do with him, but eat him. The bull I replaced him with is almost 2 and stood about 2 feet taller than him. I'm thinking he had a testerone problem or something along those line.

I know he was the picture animal to put in the freezer, but I'm still excited to show something for all the work I have been doing.

This a bad pic, but this was taken the day we got the new bull. The old bull on the left was 3 years +- and the new bull was 14 months +-. You can see the size diffrence and the new bull has taken alot more intrest in the cows that he ever did.
