First cow and calf

Well my dad got a cow and calf from a gentlemen for some work we did and gave it to my wife it looks like it has a little dairy in her, my was wondering if after taming her down and working with her if she could milk her.

here is a pic of the cow and calf and the gentlemen said she was with the bull so probably bred again.

this picture was just with my cell phone she started feeding it some wet cobb today do you have any advice for us with the cow she seems a little tame because this is just day two and she will come up to us for a bucket of cobb.

she got free grazing on 40 acres of clover grass plus anything we decided to buy her.

Unless I miss my guess, she's definitely got some dairy in her, Holstein. Wouldn't be surprised if she didn't give quite a bit of milk. The calf looks like it's a beef/dairy cross, probably an Angus cross, which makes fro some mighty fine eating. Keep working with her and feeding her treats, you'll gain trust, and eventually will probably have a very decent milk cow. The momma cows looks pretty dang good from my vantage point, but others with more expertise hopefully will give their opinions, too.

Good Luck!

Yes you can milk her some day, keep making her a pet, and mess with her all you can. I have been know to milk a stock cow if I had no dairy cows to milk, so go ahead and give it a try. Thanks Marc

From the way her head domes & those droopy ears - maybe some Brahman with the Holstein?

Do you know if she was ever haltered or milked? If she was ever milked, you should be able to make friends with her pretty easily and do it again. Of course, even if she never was, with patience, you could still milk her.

From years with working with holsteins. I would say what you have there is 100% pure holstein. She just has a big head, the poll sticking up atop is from being dehorned. No other signs of brahma influence. So, just a big ole milk wagon is what you have. Looks like she can raise nice calf too. I imagine that calf is not really to old. Just grew like a weed from all the milk.

Looks just like some of my holstein/brangus cross cows I use as beefers. Some of them had to be culled out and sold at the salebarn due to them making more milk than one calf could handle and having udder problems. The ones that did make the cut showed the long head, long ears, and saggy brisket. They do raise some really good calves that sale great when bred back to a black beef bull. I'd like to have a whole pasture full of them.
