Wanted dexter semen or bull

I,m located in Wisconsin and need to lease a dexter bull for a single heifer or find semen to breed her. I know the dexter assocation has semen for sale but what are my opptions to get it delivered or shipped.Breeding the cow is no problem just to get semen or find a bull to lease or have her brought to the bull . I didnt think that this would be a problem I thought that the big bull studs had semen for dexter but the ones that I checked didnt .

Hoffman's has some dexter semen. http://www.hoffmanaibreeders.com/bull.html , I don't think I copied the link correctly, may need to copy/ paste onto your search thingy. Most bulls you have to order 4 or 5 straws, your vet or AI tech will have a tank to store the extras until needed. Shipping is usually overnight in dry ice, directly to your tech so arrange for the storage first, then order.

Semen is shipped in a mini storage tank. You will have to store it in a tank that contains liquid nitrogen. Otherwise the semen will not be any good. Make sure you have storage facilities before ordering semen. Tilly is correct, you will probably have to order a minimum of 5 straws and pay for the shipping besides. You say breeding is no problem, I am assuming that you have an AI tech or vet lined up to do the job.

You can find the list of American Dexter Cattle Association AI bulls at:

http://www.dextercattle.org/AI%20Bulls.htm

Scroll down to find my bull, Brenn of Paradise. If you like him, email me your ZIP code and I'll get you a quote for shipping.

For the PDCA AI bulls, go to the following URL and click on AI bulls:

http://www.purebreddextercattle.org/

I didn't give you that one first because I don't have my bull listed there yet, and anyone can see that mine is the best!

Most of the owners of AI bulls keep the semen stored with a genetics company. Once you pay for the semen and shipping, the owner releases the semen for shipping. The genetics company will ship it to you UPS in a small liquid nitrogen tank. You transfer the semen to your tank and call UPS to pick up the shipping tank. It is not really such a big deal. But be ready to pay for a minimum of five straws of semen, plus shipping. You want more than one straw anyway incase the cow doesn't stick the first time she is AI'd. If you are paying shipping, you might as well order several straws of semen. The alternative is to breed the cow to an angus or Jersey bull and get a crossbred calf. You local AI tech should keep angus and Jersey semen on hand.

If you go with a carrier bull like Gene's then you will need to know the carrier status of your cow. Better to go with a non carrier to be safe.
