I've got black lung from burning horn buds

I inhaled my fair share of smoked keratin today. My daughter's 4-H project leader came out with her scoops and dehorning iron and decided that the calf's horns were small enough to burn. In exchange, I disbudded HER daughter's Saanen kids with our goat sized dehorner. I inhaled a ton of goat smoke, then helped to hold Lucy the heifer. Lucy has proved to be a very sweet and calm girl and aside from dancing the tarentella across my obviously "not ready" body, she didn't make a peep once we got her well-restrained. Then she got her grain and was back to normal. I'll be hacking up black crud for a few days. Even after a long shower, I can still smell the "stank" of burning-yuck.

One of the main downsies to disbudding days. It's even worse if you are a mouth breather like me. lol
I burn 10-20 kids at a time. Lots of lovely smoke to inhale....

Wish I would have been able to disbud today. Nope, disbudder crapped out on me. 5 kids to do, had a helper (actually had the disbudder, I'm the helper!) and no dice. Will spend what I made on the bucklings I've sold to buy another *#&$^& disbudder.

I did, however, tattoo today!! First time tattooing, no errors (that I'm aware of) and even got the dog. lol There's green paste EVERYWHERE.

I remember dehorning and branding day when I was a kid.....we smelled for days! I noticed someone on craigslist offering to do farm visits to band and dehorn....I might give them a call.

Lately with all the lack of sleep around here, I've become a "grammar cracker." And my spelling's gone to pot, two.
