hey dont know how many of yall use them, but for those who do and train there own, would just like to hear a few training techniques, (training commands, how you like them to work ect.) and compare to my own.

Well right now I am looking for a red male heeler and will travel for a good dog with grit . My heeler that I have now does a great job for me he has lots of grit and can be called off when needed . He is loyal and stays by me all day long .I find a very important part of training is to lie down when told so the cattle can regroup or get the cattle under control . I also let him walk with me through the cows and everyone stays relaxed but when the comand is to work or get a cow he is to make things happen .A good dog is a dog that is given a comand and stays at it till given a comand to stop . When a dog is told to sit he is to sit till you tell him the task is over .My dog is kenneled when not under my supervision or he will find things good or bad to do.He is my friend but has a job to do or he will be replace .The reason I am looking for another dog is to add not replace because I feel it will take a couple of years to start another dog and mine is getting older.

I like a dog who has grit, they just aren't useful if they don't. He has to have a bite to back things up if needed. Trainability is so important, if you can't train em, what good are they. Stock sense, head and heel. Natural cast and radial feel. Medium eye. Once trained, I expect the dog to know his left from right, walk up, stop, get out, come in, hit, that will do. shed, pen, and do an outrun of 350 + yards. All the commands will need to be on whistles as well. Dog needs to be good around other dogs and people, good traveler, quiet, and good in the house. I prefer smooth coated as they are so much easier to keep clean.
