Quality Milk Replacer
The USDA is reducing the allowable amount of antibiotics in medicated calf milk replacers (hurray) and has discovered that feeding a high plane of nutrition helps reduce the risk of scouring.
When purchasing a milk replacer, look for 28% protein and 20% fat. Yes, it is more expensive, and much better for calves - expecially in those first 4-6 weeks.
Keep bottle calves clean, dry, and remember to wash the bottles, nipples & buckets well after each feeding, to reduce the risk of bacterial growth.
