We haven't had snow or a storm like this in a long time. It is kinda neat to watch, not so nice to be out in. Although, it really isn't too cold out yet. Supposed to cool down to around 0 F over the next few days.
We try not to get too upset about it, just remember about the dugouts and creeks that will be filled in the spring when it melts.

Got the bunks cleared of snow yet? Or is it still blowing today? Sure hope you aren't calving now.

Thanks for the "nice" pics. Makes me glad to live in a hot, humid summering place. I'll think twice next time before I complain about our hot, dry summers!
Years ago, when I worked for the railroad, we got on a work train loaded up with our trackhoes, backhoes, and dozers in Minneapolis, MN. We headed West to our destination of Minot, ND. We slept most of the night in the bunk cars and arrived early the next morning to conditions like you posted in your pictures. It was easy for me to make the decision to not move there when the opportunity arose for more pay and an advancement in employeement. The machines we'd loaded up a couple of days earlier had to be chipped off the flatcars and brought inside to warm up. It took two days to thaw them out enough to safely operate them but the ground was too frozen to dig for another six weeks.
My hat's off to you to deal with those conditions. God Bless and stay warm.

Today was clean out day. We had banks as high as 10'. We blew, shovelled and pushed snow.
Cows, impatiently waiting while the blower cleared a path for me in the truck to travel.
The worst was probably this feed bunk. Now, just what is the best way to clean this one out??

Anyone feel like shovelling?

In the end, we pulled the feeder panels out and blew the snow away.
Some more tall banks

Got the bunks cleaned out pretty good. Snow is still blowing a bit, but I would imagine that will be a constant from now on. As long as it is just ground drifting, that's not too bad. We don't start calving til about Mar 1. Early enough for some nasty weather still, but usually not nearly so cold as Jan and Feb.
Francis, I can imagine that. That's what we have block heaters for ;-). I don't care for the winters, but I like where I live so I guess I just have to deal with it.....
