How is her weight?

When it comes to dairy heifers, I swear. . .I have no idea if ours is ideal, over weight or under weight - lol! She was looking plump, and we cut back on the calf manna, and she has dropped some weight.

carefull about the halters~ I really liked them on my calves~ but a couple months back I was checking fits to be sure no one was outgrowing their halters and discovered a burr between the halter and the chin on one of my sweet babies had worked it's way into his chin and caused a pretty gruesome appearing wound. It had probably been there for a long time to make a big old abscess on his chin like that but I had not noticed because I generally just grabbed the halter behind the ears and yanked.....if the halter gave some I didn't mess with it more because obviously the calf had not outgrown it. I only noticed the abscess when I did because when I yanked on the halter behind his ears it pulled the halter loose where the abscess was scabbing onto it (with the burr IN the wound trying to heal over onto the halter) and made him bleed.

Something to think about, I buy pony halters for my small calves. For one they fit great and two they are not expensive...I live in horse & beef country so finding a dairy calf halter is tough....Nice calf.

I bought her a dark purple / maroon calf halter, and it is still HUGE on her. I might try a mini pony halter because she needs to get used to one - I'm sure - at this point.

Thanks! I am glad to know people who know something about cattle feel she is at a good weight.
