Any one have yaks or water buffalo??

Ok So I want to add some bovines to my homestead, I like alternative livestock and Im thinking about yaks or water buffalo. From what I have been reading yaks can be raised down to the mid US, Im in Ks near osage city. This is just abouve halfway down the state. How would they fair here? I like the yaks becouse I can get some of their hair for spinning and they cross on cattle. however if I cant have them in my climet Im interested in water buffalo.

Anyone have experience with either? Know If yaks can live in KS?

Thanks

I would think yaks would do fine in Kansas. Temperament would be a concern, however. A bison rancher near us had a yak that was nasty mean. But I've read about growers who have no problems with theirs. Alternative livestock are nice, but the cost can outweight the novelty.

I was only inches away when a water buffalo killed a man and badly injured another in the sale ring at Macon, Missouri several years ago. That quelled any thoughts I may have had about owning a water buffalo.
