AI Questions

Hello All, we are getting ready to AI our Jersey. I haven't called the technician but I was told he only has two bulls available for Jersey's.

Stupid question maybe but can I pre-order something I want and then have the tech use that semen instead? I know that it it is in freezer storage but figured they ship it somehow? Should I call the AI tech and ask him if I can have it sent it to him for me? Also how do I order one of those pretty catalogs full of bulls? I found the semexusa site but didn't see a print catalog to order?

Also I saw on CJ's thread that you can get sexed semen, that sounds great if it actually works, this will be her first breeding. Should I order sexed?

My last question, our heifer will be shown at fairs in July and August, I don't want her due date too close to the fairs. Would an end of September delivery date be a good time to shoot for?

Thank you for helping me with my newbie questions!

Morningstar, the tech needs to order the semen of your choice normally a 5 straw minimum. He also has the nitrogen storage tank to store the straws until use. Expect to pay a lot more for the straws if you get to selective. If the cow doesn't settle after AI you have to go at it again and again untill she settles. This can get costly...Call you tech for more advice....Topside

If the tech works for a company, chances are he won't use anything but that semen. Looking at other companies wares won't help.
Best to call him and find out the real deal.

Most companies seem to have few choices when it comes to Jersey sires, from what I've seen. Select Sires and one other. . . I've looked into . . .it seems the Jersey selection just gets the short end of the stick.

Thank you all for your help!! Looks like I should call the AI tech and go from there. Hopefully she'll settle sooner rather then later.
