medicated calf feed

A friend of ours just got us over 20 bags of outdated feed for $1/bag from the local feed mill. All we knew was that it was for cows. After they brought it, we saw that it was medicated calf feed.

We have 2 steers - one 700 lbs and the other a 3 month old. They are on pasture, and we've been giving them a few cupfulls of grain in the evenings.

Can I feed them the medicated feed?

I'd feed it, just follow any withdrawal periods listed on the feed.

As long as you have it, might as well use it just don`t butcher that bigger calf till the drugs are out of him. Watch what you buy, some one pulled one on you.TY Marc

What medication is in the feed? Follow the feeding directions on the label.

You got a great deal on the feed...feel lucky. Look at the tag, whatever you have never heard of google on the net. Frankly I'd feed it out and follow Sammy's advice. Usually the only medication in calf feed is to help prevent scours...Tag tells all. If all the tags are gone, go to the mill and look at a fresh bag...Topside

The feed is "Complete feed for grower dairy cattle" and it's for the "prevention and control of coccidiosis caused by E. bovis and E. zuernil" so you're right about the antibiotic feed Topside.

We just picked up a 5-day old red holstein tonight, so he should grow out nicely. I don't like giving medicated feed, but you can't beat $1/bag. Should we mix it with regular feed? I will make sure we don't overdose too
