Lea finally calved....

With a heifer! Lea is a first calf heifer out of Hercules. Her calf was sired by another of our Jersey bulls, Waldo.
Lea is one of our home milker Jersey herd that started way back when I was 7years old. We keep them separate from the commercial herd because they all have horns.
This is such beautiful calving weather!

When I went out to see her this afternoon I couldn't find her to start with.....

And proud granddad, Lee.

Congrats. They are both beautiful. Lea looks just like what I picture whenever someone says "family milker".

Lee is getting to be about 6 years old, so he has quite a bit of bulk by this time. I've never weighed him, but I worm him when needed for about 1100.
Lea looks bigger than she is in the pictures. She is bulky, but short. I'd guess her to be about 750-800.
Keep in mind, these are guesstimates.

Wow! Thanks for the information Emily - we don't have a farm so it is really interesting to learn different things. I can't believe (well, actually I can!) that Lee is around 1100 pounds. That is a BIG animal. I'd say 750-800 is still very impressive in Lea
Lee's coloring is really interesting though.

They are all just beautiful!
