Preparing pasture for spring

First I live in Wisconsin and was wondering what is best for my pasture for spring . Last night Oct 10th we had a frost that froze water in a hose so I had to wait for the sun to come out to use the hose.I have about 6 inches of growth on all my pasture and am wondering if I can turn the cattle on this to nibble on or wait till later in the year or not at all .The cattle are on a haylage diet now and they are in a drylot now because i don't want to stunt the grass or stess it to much .The only reason to put them on the pasture is to spread the manure around more. They like the haylage so they would nibble at the grass but over time they will eat it down to nothing .If we get a lot of snow then I will turn them out till the snow disappers . Just looking for opions Thanks
