I need advice about a Jersey with Ketosis.
Our Jersey calved a week ago. She has always been only grass fed, and is 3 years old. This is her second calving.
3 days ago,I noticed that I could smell ketones in her milk and breath. We started giving her 4 oz of propylene glycol twice a day. We are giving her such a small amount because she is small, even for a Jersey.
We have been hand feeding her oats, barley and BOSS 3 times a day. I've also tried giving her cut up corn on the cob, apples and carrots. She does not really want to eat those.
She is giving over 5 gallons a day, even though we are not milking her completely out. The poor thing just keeps getting thinner.
I don't want to mess up her rumen by giving her too much propylene glycol or increasing her grain too quickly, but I really want her to get better soon.
Any help would be appreciated.
