medicines to stock

Didn't want to distract from the other thread on this subject

I am new to cows. I have some antibiotics in the fridge and some electrolytes on the shelf. I think I need to stock some others:

What meds do you consider essential to stock?
What do they treat?
Any equipment needed to administer them?

LA200 and penicillin.
They both require injection, so you'll need hypodermics and syringes.

Both are an antibiotic.
DH has always had the theory that if it's worse than LA can cure, it goes to the vet.

Oxyvet LA 200
Nuflor
Sulfa boluses
Mineral oil
Glycol-P

The above are for what we had for stockers. The first is a general antibiotic. Second is for respiratory cases. Third, as jump-start for sick steers. Fourth, for bloated animals that need to be tubed. Fifth, an electrolyte. First two need syringes and needles; third one needs a bolus dispensor; and last two need clear rubber tubing over an inch in diameter.

The case with Nuflor is debatable. Other drugs to treat BRD include Micotil, Draxxin, Baytril, and Excenel. Some are better than others, depending on the type of livestock being treated.

Many thanks. Do you need a vet to give you these, or can I just pick them up at an ag store?

Shots are easy.... I hope I never have to do is tube an animal...not sure I wouldn't kill it in the process!

Tubing calves is easy, just pick up one of those calf tubers from the feed/farm store or vet. I always keep one around for cold calves. They also work perfectly for goats. They pretty much keep you from killing the calf.

Nuflor is also my choice for pnuemonia. It must be gotten from a vet.
