rough coat

I picked up a Jersey at auction today. She has a pretty rough coat. Is she lacking mineral or need worming? I will be picking up mineral today for sure but wasnt sure about worms. She is in good weight her coat is just rough

Rough coat or not, minerals are always needed.

I would deworm as well. Good idea with any new addition

Probably both. An animal low in copper is more susceptable to worms. So when you get the mineral levels back up where they should be, and worm the cow, in future you will have less problems with worms.

I have to laugh. All of this stuff is taken care of on the big farm. Minerals etc are put into the feed via the custom ration. I get a couple cows of my own that are on pasture and I have no idea what to do with them! Kinda funny really Keeps ya humble that's for sure She is already filling out just being on grass

Even cows with a "complete" ration will be better with free-choice loose minerals also available to them.

Keep some salt, minerals (New Life is best) and even baking soda out for her, free choice. Do worm her too. A Rough coat is a sure sign of worms and mal-nutrition.
