8 month old dexter bull

Anyone near west central Iowa interested in a nice dexter bull calf? Born on 12-31-08. Black calf from black horned parents. sell unregistered for $350 or trade for hay/rifle/etc.? Pictures available on request (no time to post them now). Please let me know ASAP if anyone is interested.
Thank you,
Brian

Can anyone offer some advice on the pricing I was considering for this bull (could be steered if someone didn't want a bull). I do not see any dexters for sale in my area and am curious if $350 is fair, too low, or too high?
My original feeling was to steer him and butcher in about a year but figured if someone needed a Dexter bull I would sell him to buy hay for this winter.
Never sold any Dexter's before and only know pricing of sale barn commercial type cattle.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but. An unregistered Dexter bull especially if he is one of the small short legged types isn't worth very much. What do you think he will weigh? His value is what meat he will cut out.

Thats true, an unregistered calf won't bring as much, and the short legged ones sure don't, I don't know what Ihuntgsps has, I have long legged and usually sell them for between $350.00 and $450.00, depending on the calf. I steer most of them, because there are a lot of bulls out there, and we always need beef, plus I have several people who buy beef from me, so I only keep the best for seed stock.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, he is a short bull and weighs about 400+ right now. Will probably steer him and raise him for my own use. does it pay to steer him now (summertime with flies) or wait until Nov?

I think you can band him with no problem, if you are going to cut him you might want to wait till it's a little cooler. He'll make some fine beef, the last one I butchered was a shortie and he did real well. Good luck with him
