Question What do I need to stock?

I've started raising bottle babies and a few weaned calfs. What medicines do I need to have on hand? Or what other supplies? Can someone recommend a "cow bible", a great reference guide? Thanks

Have you visited your vet yet? They might be able to give you more advice than anything or anyone else.

How old are your weaned calves?

For books, look on Amazon.com and search under "calves" for any 'cow bibles' you could use.

Thanks for the info. Yes our Vet says Baytril. I guess I'm just afaid of his advice, as He said my lil guy Elvis was gonna be fine after he gave him two shots for pnemonia. Elvis died the very next day.

Stevie? bottle baby approx. 5 weeks old
Farrah weaned approx. 2 months old
Dolly weaned approx. 3 months old

All of my "kids" were bought at a sale barn, so I'm guessing on ages.

I have purchased every book that I can find, locally. So know I guess I'll try Amazon.

If they are weaned you will probably be ok? When they are younger than that, you should have some meds for scours! I always have some penicillan in the fridge. I have electrolites on hand as well, on really hot days I mix a little into their milk. I like to think of it as preventative.

I also have keep vitamaster (it is a injectable multivitamin) I .like to give them a shot after dehorning? I do not know why I started doing this?? I just thought that hte stress of dehorning may weaken theire immune system and they may get sick? So I give them a shot and I have never had any problems!

Salt blocks! You need to get some of those.

As for books?? I think you will find just about everything you needs to know on this site! If you have a question, just post it. Or goggle it. I have given up on books, I think tat I can grab the computer and google something faster that I can filp through a book and find what I need to know

Happy Calf Rasing
