If it wasn't

for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. I was wanting as many Dexter bull calves for my freezer beef customers as possible and as many Jersey heifers as possible, for obvious reasons.

Every Dexter calf was a heifer and the third and final Jersey calf just hit the ground, all bulls. Drat and Blast. Wonder what the odds of that happening are?

Oh well, at least all the cows and calves are doing well. And I did get some nice Dexter X Jersey heifers so this years calf crop wasn't a complete disaster.

I wonder if Ozark Jewels does any consulting work? She seems to get a lot of heifers, maybe I could get her to come up and give my Jersey girls a pep talk<(:~)

LOL!! Wish I could convince cows to have heifers!! *This past year* we had lots of heifers but its usually the bulls who take the lead. The family Jersey herd was bull-prone this year as well.
Doesn't it usually go that the ones you want heifers from have bulls, and the ones you want bulls from have heifers??
You know though.....I figured it up and over the years it usually evens out to be about 50/50 bulls/heifers. But those all-bull years are the ones I really remember.
Better luck next calving season!!

I wish I had that problem, I only got one Dexter heifer this year, lots of ol' stinky boys.

Even in Australia I have had the same problem. My last Spring/Summer calving produced 23 out of 25 Lowline heifers - I want bulls for steers so the only 2 bulls I got have ended up as my only steers for the season. The Autumn (or Fall) calving has fortunately begun to turn the odds with 8 bulls & 4 heifers. Hope your luck turns too.
