I was just quoted $600.00 for a three day old Jersey heifer calf, registered.

Last summer I was quoted $1500.00 for a unregistered bred heifer, first freshener.

Last fall an unregistered, three week old bottle heifer was $400.00

All Jerseys.

Last week my aunt bought 2 grade jerseys at a farmer dispersail auction. Both cows she got are young. The 5 yr is breed back and in milk, $ 800. The other was a 6 yr bredd 6 months and dry, $600. 6 mo to a year heifer calves 250-350. The market on milk cattle here in wis has dropped big time.

We just got a coming 4 y.o., dry, bred back to Jersey bull and due to calve the end of July, for $1,000. She's small, but very friendly for a 'working girl'. The dairyman, a vet, had sold two others for $1,200, and had another for $1,000.

Last year we started milking again and purchased 16 cows and 4 young heifers. We paid anywhere from $900 for an older cow to $2,500 for one of her best cows. The heifers we bought for $1,500. Guess what? The $2,500 cow isn't the best one after all! The best one is one of the mid-range priced ones. If anyone is interested, we will be selling some of the older cows as, although they are producing wonderful milk, they aren't up to the production we need here on our farm. They would make wonderful family cows though as they are halter trained and very friendly. Our daughter even rides them and she's only three. We also have steers and bulls for sale as well; their price depends on their age as we have some bottle babies coming up as well as yearlings that may be old enough to butcher or breed this fall. Let us know!

Just had a registered herd go out a few weeks ago. Around 2000 for the cows I saw go through the ring. Calves were 600 and up.
