Best fencing?

I posted this in the goat forum too, but I'd like your advice.

Hubby and I will be fencing in about 3 acres into 3 sections. We plan to have Nigerian Dwarfs, but might someday switch to mini Angus or Dexter cattle. What would you say would be the best fencing for both of those? We want it to be sturdy for many years to come, so we want to put in the best that we can afford.

Thanks so much!

Goats and cattle require different fencing. Goats need fencing that they can't escape out of (in other words, crawl through or jump over or in between), and cattle also need fencing they can't escape out of but on lesser terms than the goats.

Page wire or chain-link fence is the best for goats. For cattle, barbed wire, electric fencing (only one or two strands depending on hot-wire-trained they are), high-tensile, iron panels, etc. is all they need. Page wire (or something similar) will also work for those minis or Dexters.

I think 4 foot woven wire with a strand of barb on top, a few inches above the woven. Keep most any creature (short of emus and bison) in there.
