Heifer available, also bull calf-MO
This heifer was just born on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. The bull calf was born a few days before.
The heifer is out of a really good old Jersey/Holstien cow. The cow is 11 years old this year and has no troubles at all keeping up with the herd, producing a healthy calf and giving lots of milk. This calf should make a nice family milk cow. We would keep her ourselves, but we are not keeping any of the calves born out of season.
She is the one in the back in this picture.
The bull calf would of course make a good steer, or his dam is nice enough, he could even be used as a breeding bull.
Here is the bull calf(he is the one in front):
The heifers mother at 11 years old, just fresh:
The heifer is $350, the bull is $50. Or take the pair for $380. Located near Mountain View, MO.

You said the dam is half jersey, half holstein - what was the sire?

Yes, she was born in '98. She was actually born and milked on my brother-in-laws grazing dairy(they milk over 200 cows) until last year when we bought she and 6 other cows from them(they are a seasonal dairy and these 7 cows were bred out of season). She has taken the transition like a *much* younger cow and hasn't missed a beat. I am very impressed!
We have 8-12 year old cows in our herd, some look very young, some are starting to show their age. The pure Holstiens tend to look their age before the Jerseys and crossbreds.

Actually the dam is 3/4 Jersey, 1/4 Holstien. She was already bred when we bought her from my brother-in-law last fall. The calf is sired by a Jersey/Holstien bull.
