intranasal vaccine

I have a couple cows that are pretty tame and easy to work with, until I have to vaccinate. I used the same needle guage that I use on kittens but they kick and buck and carry on. The best I could do for the blackleg combo was an IM quick jab and they only got 1 cc I would guess. I am a smaller gal and without any help I am looking to get the intranasal vaccine for the respiratory combo. Trouble is the one I know of, the Onset 5 IN is back ordered indefinately. Can anyone suggest an alternate brand? These cattle are 7 months and 1 year beef breeds and unvaccinated as far as I know. I lost two dairy calves of about the same age to suspect pneumonia last fall so trying to avoid that again.

When I was a kid, I had two beef cows. The vet came to give them a shot, don't remember what for, but what he said was something that I've always remembered. We had the cow tied to a telephone pole and he took off the needle and jabbed it in the rump of the cow. Then once the cow calmed down, he slipped the syringe on the needle and and pushed in the fluid. He said that otherwise, the needle would normally break off the syringe. I know that doesn't answer your question, but thought it may help the next time you have to give them a shot.

Well today I noticed that her horn area, where she was dehorned a few months ago before I got her, is abscessed. So I had no choice but to shoot her up with some pennicillin. I used a 22 guage butterfly needle. Its sort of like the slap shot I guess. Its a needle on the end of a 8" tube. Jabbed it in and she danced and kicked and bucked for a good while but eventually got 10 cc in. I think if I cant find an intranasal spray I will use this method for BVD vaccine.
