tetanus shot question/banding

Last evening, DH banded the two new calves for me, and gave each a shot of tetanus antitoxin. I think that's what it's called--the one you give for more or less instant immunity. Do I need to go back and give them a tetanus toxoid, or should the antitoxin be good enough for this procedure?

Also, if I do need to give the toxoid, how much and how soon would I give it?

btw, the calves are doing very well with their bottles, and are nibbling a little feed like y'all told me. They come now when I call them, and are kicking up their heels some during the day in their little field, when they are not resting.

thanks!
mary

I would give them the vaccine now as the antitoxin is only good for about two weeks I believe. On my lambs I use CD&T, but with the calves you may want to use something like Covexin 8. Just follow labeling instructions on the vaccine. Most require two injections the first year.
