What do you get for a hanging side of beef?

I'm going to have extra fat calves to sell this year and would like to know what others are charging per pound/ hanging weight? I charged $1.70/pound two years ago some customers thought that was too high, but I thought I was giving them a very good price. The calves do get grain and are on pasture, no shot or sprays on the hay/pasture. These calves are not overly fat, but are not thin either, in the past they've always graded prime.

Thanks,
Bob

I get $3.50 per pounds hanging weight. If they don't want to pay that, then I tell them they need to inquire somewhere else. I can afford them being on my pasture a little longer until another customer comes by that is willing to pay $3.50 per pound.

I get $2.25-2.50 per pound hanging weight and they pay for their own processing. I get paid up front for their weight before they get to choose their cutting order with the butcher. If they back out or don't pay, I call the next person on the waiting list.

I am surprised that you can get calves to grade Prime. What age do you normally process?

I paid 1.69/lb hanging weight for grass-only, no pesticides nor shots, jersey maybe 6 months ago. The farmer we bought from charges whatever price the slaughter house is currently paying - which seems super fair to us.

We butcher at around 24 months. Most are grading prime or high choice.

We get 1.40 a pound plus processing (.42 a pound) and kill fee (75.00 a head). I keep telling dh he could raise the price a bit LOL! I should show him the priceya'll are getting....he thinks he's robbing people to raise it to 1.60 a pound! I keep telling him you can't get cruddy, half-fat hamburger in the storearound here for under 2.30 a pound, so what's he think GOOD beef is worth? Ah well....

Last year was $2.10 per pound hanging. Processing is responsibility of the customer.

We charge 2 bucks a pound cut wrapped and frozen.
The kill fee is 25 and processing is .35 at the place I do business and the kill truck comes to the farm.
I make about the same as if I shipped the animal to the sales barn.
Pasture/hay some grain.

Then why bother? just ship 'em and be done with it. You go to a lot of trouble for your customers to have it butchered and processed for them, and that should be worth something.

My last one I had processed, which was picked up last Sat. after 14 days dry-hanging, was $1.65#. If I were selling any pieces of him, I'd just ask .50 more than what is currently being asked at the local super, because he's all pasture/grass-mama-fed, with never a sick day, as nearly organic as could possibly be; was 10.5 mo. old, and weighed just over 900#. Can't believe the difference in the taste between the Guernsey and Jersey-Guernsey-Angus. I like the former much better.

What trouble. The guy comes out and kills em. Easier than loading them in the trailer. Cheaper than humping the truck and trailer to the sales barn too.
All I do is collect the money and call the people when the stuff is ready.

Folks can get cut wrapped and frozen for 1.69 a pound for a half from the same place they pick up mine for 2. My price stays at 2 while the price at the sales barn has been dropping since the last time I sold anything. I'm money ahead selling at 2 bucks a pound.

I get $3.50 per pound hanging weight. But, that includes kill fee, cutting, wrapping, freezing, and delivery to the customer.
