Put in your guesses on birth day - pictures

Ok, my paranoid cow daddy thread is not getting NEARLY enough attention for my liking.

Here are the facts and two pictures. Submit your guess as to when Violet is going to give birth:

- Due May 23rd (5 more days)
- Udder very full
- Tail head VERY sunken
- Dripped milk from one teat today
- Walking around and eating just fine
- Small amount of clear liquid coming out of her cooter

Here's a pic of her tail (very sunken) and her udder:

Looks like she's going to come in early. Which is good because in general the early calves are more likely to be heifers (and the really late ones are usually bulls).

Older cow like that, looking like that, is coming in real soon. They don't fool around like a heifer does. If they look like they are going to calve, they are. My guess is today, tomorrow at the latest.

If the barometric pressure changes appreciably within next 3 days, she will deliver calf.

Topside! Your place got hit? Is everyone ok? What kind of damage occured?

You scared me with that May 15th due date! lol

So Vi is due in 4 days. I am definitely not worried about her calving any day now. She is acting like a hermit today so maybe today's the day.

CJB, my barn got hit. Lots of minor damage, but lots of manhours in repairs. Hole right through my barn's roof, t-posts out of the ground, all electrical circuits destroyed, etc. Even with a great grounding system, lightning could care less. The bolt exited next to a oak tree creating a crater.....I will post photos later after chores....Topside

Wow - that's amazing. I'm so glad that there weren't any wounded 4 legged or 2 legged residents!

So, Violet is hiding under a tree on the far part of the pasture with her tail cocked off to the side.

Does anyone want to move their guess up to today?

I guessed less than 24 hours in your other thread. Based on the description of how she is acting, I give her a few hours until there is a calf on the ground.

So are you the proud "daddy" of a heifer calf yet?

One of my does did that too me this year - she was obviously in labor all night long and after a sleepless night sitting up with her the minute I finally broke down and ran to the house for bathroom break and a a cup of coffee she has her babies!
