Need imput on flies

Howdy folks, I bought a angus calf this last winter. Spring is now upon us and flies are starting to bother her. Any suggestions? I have not gone to the feed store or called the extention agent. Wanted first hand knowledge. Thanks for any reply.

I use a product called "C-EM-DIE". It comes in a gallon jug. Great stuff! Its name says it all.

Check it out here:

Boy, it's hard to find anything that will control them. Last year was awfull, I hate to think what this year will be like. People say chickens, and ducks and lots of spray. Let me know if you find anthing that works.

A friend who raises Angus highly recommends Permectrin II. He came by this week (flies are bad around here, too, now..) with a mix of it and there have been no flies on my milk cow since. It has also rained some since. It's supposed to last about 30 days, but I can't vouch for that yet. It costs $15.00 for 32 oz. at our co-op and you only need 2 oz. to a gallon of water. That'll probably cover our horses, too.

Fly Predators

I use Fly Predators from Spalding Labs. They work!

ok well i use chickens and lots of them lol i have 34 chickens in with 4 calves lol

i have seen some flys go in there and fly around in the barn then you will see a chicken flying up trying to get in they also eat bees if there low enough lol

but they will dig in the cow poop and eat the grains and then spread it over and then just keep going back and scratching around eatting bugs and fly larva and all that stuff

we use to have ALOT of flys last year at this time this year hardly any so far if they keep up with there job and there is also no cow piles in the feild that you can see there all kicked around and the poop flies i call them the yellow ones no more of them

We also use Fly Predators from Spalding Labs and have for several years. I think it boils down to a multi-faceted approach -- manure management and not allowing a buildup of heavy manure areas, keeping pastures mowed to a reasonable height. I vaccinate with 20/20 Vision 7 (7-way plus pinkeye). I have used flytags in the past and I did notice a definite difference when I used them. I also use Durasect II pour-on, but it never seems to last as long as they indicate it will.
