what is the difference between scours and loose stool?

Hey, I am just wondering how you tell the difference. Is there a difference? Should you be concerned the moment you see a loose stool? Thanks

Big difference. I take action whenever the calf changes. Meaning loss of appetite, depression, droopy ears, lots of runny poo, etc....Just because it's real runny doesn't always prompt panic...Topside

When ever I see really loose poops, that are very frequent and they loose their appitite, I give electrolites! And only half the amount of milk, if using milk replacer, cut the amount of water in half and give full amount of replacer.

I'd get concerned before I even thought about buying a calf or before it is born. Stock up on supplies that you may need if the calf does start getting a loose stool. That way when you face the " is it Scours or just loose stool?" you can begin treatment right away. " Next time I'm in town" isn't going to help.
