price of bull calves ??

I've got these two bull calves that my Jersey has raised to 8 weeks and my horseshoer is wanting to buy them, but I don't have a clue as to what to price them at, anyone have a guess?? I know that the babies are bringing anywhere from $65.00 to $100.00, but for ones ready to wean and on their own, I just don't know.

Sounds like you are getting ripped off....

$175 would be a fair price for these calves!

Here's another real-time example. I am off to the auction tomorrow to buy two Jersey Bull calves. Folks in my area have ordered weaned Jersey steers (2 months old) for a fair price of $200. The buying and selling of any type livestock truly depends on supply and demand, plus most importantly the mindset of the buyers in your region....Topside

See you at the auction tomorrow Justin??? I'll be the guy in the calf pen feeling up the heifer and bulls...

Let me know how the calves sell, these guys are probably in the 175 to 200 lb range, and eating well on their own. I know one thing for sure, prices sure vary depending on where you are. Three day old calves were selling for $35.00 till it warmed up and now they are $65. at the dairy.

o ya right now is the WORST time to buy calves if you looking for some and want to spend little money

there is a guy selling jersey calves for $30 each pretty much just starting on the milk replacer and there bulls

i got my 4 calves this winter for free in over a 4 month period cause they needed to be worked with to get there legs stright and then the last one was a twin and they keep the girl and gave me the bull

so all but one leg on the last calf i got is good and my calves are huge 2 months on milk and they got lots of milk not alot of people do that for bull calves but milk right off the bat and a good start on it bulks them up faster than what most people do for bulls which is one bag

ya it was a little bit more money but i got a 50lb bag of milk for $35 so not too bad since i got all the calves for free

and the grain is good stuff and i think its $8 for a 50lb bag might be 7 some thing

so i wouldnt sell mine for under $250 right now the way the 2 older ones stand $175 for the 3rd one and $150 for the twin he is a month and bulked up pretty good

but ya prices are up right now a brown swiss sold for $150 about 2 weeks old

so dont think my prices are bad but im not looking to sell them but if i did wont go any lower than that on them

PJ, your right about how the prices will vary depending on location... I think you should be able to sell them just above market price, knowing how they were raised on a cow and are very healthy is worth a little extra to some...

John, man do I wish I was going. Im still in Wyoming. Finals are this week, and Ill be leaving for home next friday. Ill be going a few times this summer. Let me know when your going again...

Neighbor raises Jersey bull calves for me until they are 2 weeks old and sends me home with milk to mix with my goat milk...$25 each. Another farmer will give them to me free, he shoots the bull calves, loses money taking they to the sale.

Your 8 week olds are worth considerably more, $225-250.

I can get all the jersey calves I want free. Holsteins a bit more, around 30 bucks or so.
Holstein feeders...60-75 cent a pound.
