Normal after calving?

I'm probably being paranoid, but would rather be safe.

My first-calf heifer calved at about midnight last night. Birthing was over quickly and seemed to go well. Today, I saw the placenta had been birthed also, but she still has bloody discharge.

What alarms me is that it is a very bright red instead of a rich, dark red as with the other mamas. It seems like it is dripping a bit also instead of just the whole discharge tinged with blood.

Ideas?

Thanks all.

They usually have a lot of blood, and gunk for awhile after birthing. If if stays bright red, you might want to call the vet, but it's probably just the clensing that goes on after they have a calf. She could have torn some tissue in there or something simple, I'd give it a day or two, unless it's actually bleeding.

Thanks!

I have 3 that all calved this week and she was the last. It is just much brighter than the other two. I'll watch it and see.
