slime tail?

yes, I am picking up the heifer's tail maybe 20x a day to see what might be going on as far as calving.... today her tail is just slimey with so much mucusy discharge! And you can see the goo trails all over her hips where her tail has flung it, far and wide.

Due date is a week from today. I know anything is possible with a heifer.... but could it possibly still be another weeks wait with all this discharge?

all the other signs look ready to go: very very very full udder and teats, very loosened ligaments, very very puffy vulva.

any ideas? good jokes to pass the time? bets on when Violet is going to calve?

I remember the days when I would walk around watching my cows rear end, waiting for something to happen..........turn your back, and it will. Someone else will know, but the color of the mucus is the give away, either clear or cloudy looking says if it's time.
Stay tough, she'll have it soon.

she's doing fine! pregnant like always. lol.

She even had a dry vulva till maybe an hour ago. Goopy again now.

I of course am anxious to have her calf - and a bit reluctant too. She returns to the dairy farm who owns her after the calf gets its second feed - and I am going to miss this big gentle pretty girl. sigh. The dairy farmers are getting such a hoot out of me falling in love with their cow, never heard such laughter as when I tell them how she likes to be petted and brushed. Kind, gentle laughter - not making fun of me - but finding it funny. Which makes me smile too. Still, feeling a bit wistful about Ms Violet becoming a professional milker.
