Need Advise

I have a 6 year old jersey cow that is giving 3 & 1/2 gal of milk a day. She is
due to freshen the last of June. My problem is she is showing no sign of slacking off in the volume that she produces. I have just started once a day
milking. I am afraid to just stop altogether that the tremendous weight will
damage her udder attachments along with other problems.
Thank you for any advise you can give.

Start milking every other day and then every two days and then every three days etc...... You should have time to dry her off in one month. That will give her two months rest.

How much grain are you giving her? It helps to really decrease the grain too.

When I reduce her feed she just takes it off her back and keeps on producing
milk she is not in good body condition now.

I know it seems impossible, but she WILL dry up. Even after you stop milking her completely and her udder gets distended, she WILL dry up. Their bodies reabsorb the milk and then get a chance to rest and rebuild udder tissue between lactations.

She sounds like a great milker. Dont be surprised if she gives Even More Next Lactation.

Good luck!
