The other day I had a calf born.
I went out to feed after taking hubby to work (thinking I might have to take a PG dog to the vet) and there was Bell (mom) licking off a wet calf. So I went down with towels, dried and tried to get the calf to stand. All seemed well so off to get a bottle, tube feeder and bounce back at the feed store, just in case.
when I came back there was afterbirth on the stall floor. I was happy that she had cleaned. A little later I saw a BIG flashy octopus like arm slip out of the cow and hang almost to her hock! OMG It looked JUST like pixs of a prolapsed uterus!!!
I called the vet and left a message. I ran inside got some water (the hoes was frozen) ran back washed "the arm" and rapped it in a chit (large wee wee pad like thing)to keep it clean and waited for the vet to call.
And hour later the vet came and told me it was just some more afterbirth!!! LOL
you can see "buttons" on cow's afterbirth just like you can on a prolapsed uterus. And very unlike dogs'!
Boy do I fell dumb!!! lol I was washing, rapping and
worrying over afterbirth!!
I'll never stop learning and blushing lol
