I got cows for my birthday!!
My man just bought me a dexter calf (will be a year in june) and a bred dexter heifer who is due March 20th!! I am so excited. They are long legged, polled dexters. I am not sure what the difference is. These guys are about 40 inches at the shoulder full grown. We move onto our new land in June and the owner is going to hold them for us until then (and calve out the heifer! I am sure that she is much better off in her care than mine around that time! )
We are hoping to build up a nice little herd of small cattle. I do like lowlines too...but we couldn't pass up this offer (buy them now and she keeps them for months for us for free!).
I am not totally green at least! I used to live on a cattle ranch for 3.5 years and we had 40 of our own and my ex husband cared for 250 for someone else. It was just him and I calving out all the cows. I am fairly new at this, but I think they will be okay with me!
I am really excited and I DO hope to be posting on this forum more once we are actually homesteading. Right now it's just some dreams, some horses and two heifers living 20 miles away in the care of someone else.
I will get some pictures of them as soon as I can!
