If you have just one then by hand. I find myself telling me that i'm drinking milk. Does not taste anything like store bought. You will find out that at certain time a year that you will have more milk then your family can drink. My friend turn their excess milk into yogert and cheese.

We milk in a converted section of a large shed. There are three bays and we built a stanchion into the one on the end and put down pine shavings onto the dirt floor. I hand milk all of them. I do have a surge but don't use it. Hand milking lets me keep a better eye on the condition of the udder and I enjoy it.

Jersey milk is good but all cows are different. If you buy a cow in milk, ask to taste some of it. We have 4 Jerseys and they all have distinctly different milk. The cream is different and the amounts of cream are different for all of them. They all have really good milk but some of it is creamier than others even after it is skimmed.
