3.5 months and eagerly counting....

please, have a good chuckle at my expense if you are so inclined - I laugh at myself every day about this......but I am so excited about having a calf due in May that I count and recount the days/weeks/months all the time.

How the heck do you manage waiting??!!

This will be our first calf. 50% old world mini-jersey, 25% commercial jersey, 25% commercial holstein. Dairy neighbors ai'd one of their heifers for us.

keeping our fingers crossed for an itsy bitsy small heifer!!

Well, as the old saying goes, "a watched pot never boils" so should it say, "a watched cow never calves.". Don't loose any sleep over it. Most of the time when you watch them too much they figure you out and wait until the wee hours of the morning to lay down and have the calf. (right after your last calving check for the night)

No, folks on here wouldn't laugh at your expense. Most of us have done the same thing even after having several calves hit the ground. It's part of the instinct of animal husbandry and being a good steward of what God has blessed you with.

I did and do the same thing ALL the time! The first calf (2007) was almost unbearably exiting and the next two (in 2008) were not much better. This year we have a first time heifer calfing while I'm on a family reunion! I am SOO hoping the heifer will be early!
Good luck!

And just on a sidenote: They NEVER calf when you think they should...
