discharge..bred or heat?

Maggie was bred sept 10 yesterday morning she had a tiny bit of mucus it was thick and looked amber colored. Then she started bawling like she does in heat there hasn't been anymore mucus. If she didn't take why hasn't she shown signs of heat until now and if she followed her regular cycles they would be a week off....Forgive me for rambling this is all new to me...
Looks like a vet check will be coming up.Lord I hope I don't have to find another bull...

Wildhorse, I remember what you had to go through just to get her bred....No fun. I'd post some photos of her rear, not looking for mucus, looking for swelling...Upnorth & Madsaw I'm sure would be one of the best people to give you an photo opinion...Topside

hate to be a critic but maybe snap a photo or two farther away or a different angle. Is she swollen up, puffy? I'm not the best person to judge....Madsaw where are you...

From what I can see, she is not swollen so that's a good sign that she's not in heat...For what it's worth as you know I'm not a dairyman...Any neighbors nearby to take a look see. If she's trying to mount humans or other animals. Not good. But you know all that...happy new year....Topside

Thick and amber colored mucous is most likely pregnancy mucous. They can show small amounts all through pregnancy. If it was thin and slimy like an egg white, then I would worry she was in heat.

Our 5 month bred cow had a bit of thick amber colored mucous on her tail yesterday. She was confirmed bred a couple on months ago and our other cow who is due in Feb has showed small amounts a few times over the past couple of months. I wouldn't worry about it, but to ease your mind you might draw some blood and send it off to be tested (costs $2.25 plus the cost to ship) or have a vet palpate.
