Breeding problems

Well we have a 7 year old Dexter cow that we can't get to come in. We bred her last November and and she calved in September right on schedule, We left the calf on her three months until we sold her and removed her 12/6/08. We gave her a shot to come in on Sat. prior so calf would help, well she didn't come in and calf had to go. My AI tech said to give another shot last Sun. and 80 hours she should be ready by as of yet no luck. The vets office said to stop milking for 48 hours and she should come in. So there we are, didn't milk yesterday not going today to see. The thing is we don't want her to dry up. She's not giving much anyway. Only about 1/2 gallon a day. But we only milk her once a day. Any info helpful.

I don't know where you are in North America but often reproductive problems can be a result of a vitamin 'e' - selinium deficiency. Are you AI'ing or is she with a bull and there is no mounting. In other words how can you tell that she is not cycling as oposed to having silent heats? L

That would be my question, too. If she's not housed with other cows, she might not be showing any behavior signifying heat. You can watch for vaginal mucus, but that's not always present. If you've "set her up" (Ovsynch or similar) I'd go ahead and breed her!
