Holstien Steers for Sale-MO
An elderly friend of mine has 5 very healthy, stocky, weaned Holstien calves for sale. Not sure of their age, but would guess they run between 250-300 lbs each. They were raised on goats milk, never sick, never stunted and look great. Two I know are steers and the others will be steers as soon as I can get over there to steer them.
She is having health problems and needs to sell these calves before winter to lighten her chore load and pay some bills.
She needs $225 each for them and that price is firm. All the hard work has been done on these calves already.
I will try to get pictures when I go over there sometime this week.
Please call 417-256-8829 for more information.

I just checked the National Feeder Calves prices... and a 300-350 lbs (332) 124.30 (or 37.5 cents a pound) for Missouri. ( http://www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/sj_ls850.txt) for November 14th.
She's wanting over a dollar a pound for non beef steers.
When you go visit your elderly friend tell her what the sales barn prices are. I'll offer 45 cents a pound (and castrate myself). Not only is the going price much less han she wants, but paying to take them to the sales barn and their commission.
Sorry, I know you are just trying to help an elderly friend... and I know she's got a lot invested in them, but the math isn't there.

How strange, my two posts that I made early this morning have disapeared.
No matter.
Thank you Allen W for the clarification on how to read the market report. It does get confusing if you don't know what you're looking at.
The local salebarn told her she would probably get $210 for her calves. She needs $225 each to break even. Healthy farm raised calves are worth the few dollars extra. They have not gone through the salebarn and are not carrying who knows what. Yes, she has them priced a few dollars higher than she might get at the salebarn. But not a lot.
I can sell 2 day old Holstien/Jersey bull calves off our farm all day long for
$70-$100 each. I have a waiting list. How much more are weaned, on pasture and grass, all-the-risks-already-taken calves worth? Easily the $225 she is asking.
I'll get pictures as soon as the weather gets better. I need to go disbudd and castrate her younger calves anyway so I'll take my camera along.

MY Post is gone too...here's the short version.
Speaking for my region only
Holstein bull calf 3 days old (off the farm)=$125 or higher
Milk replacer=$65
Bottle and Nipple=$3.50
Starter feed=$10.00
This is just a short list of items needed to raise a new-born calf and the costs have already exceeded $200. That's why this wean holstein offer is such a good buy. Let's face it a person with a few acrers and no experience should jump at a chance to purchase a steer that low, $225 weaned.....Topside

Actually if you look at my post I said she wants $225 each for these calves. I am guessing these calves weigh between 250-300 lbs. Any way you look at it, thats well under a dollar a lb.
Pictures added in a minute.

I would love to have the steers that are in number one and number three pics, but I've got more now than I know how to tackle before bed. They're very healthy looking. It's a good price. I sell mine for $300.00 and have a waiting list.

They look healthy and clean, that would be a steal here in Texas.

Sharp looking steers. Wish we had a little more money right now, I've got hay to feed them and everything.
